Terms of Adoption

Adopting from us is a straightforward process! If you have seen one of our cats and fallen in love, having read our terms of adoption, we welcome you to proceed with the form linked below. Our process takes about a month from start to finish and total costs of adoption is usually around £320-365, unless the cat is subsidised by a kind donator. You can see a breakdown of cost here.

1. THE COST

Almost all our cats are rescued from Spain, usually picked up from the streets, and sometimes from terrible conditions. In Spain, due to the abundance of abandoned cats, they have little chance of adoption. We also collaborate with a rescuer in Serbia, Katarina, who is in the same position as us.

The cost of adoption covers part of their rescue, including their trip to our fosters and all the required vet checks (spaying/neutering, worm and flea treatment, vaccines and passport). Every rescuer is a volunteer who offers up their time and help for free. We ask at least for parts of their veterinary care and travel covered through this fee, so we can continue rescuing.

2. HOUSING REQUIREMENTS

Please note that we are now accepting indoor homes only, or with supervised outdoor access in the form of a catio, harness, or fully secured garden. In some exceptions, we will accept an indoor-outdoor home

3. THE APPLICATION

To apply for the cat you are wishing to adopt, we always ask for an questionnaire to be filled out. Please feel free to ask us as many questions as you like before applying, including asking for more pictures, videos, etcetera. We ask not to send a questionnaire in if you are not sure you want to adopt, as our volunteers needs to treat every application as a serious enquiry.

4. FURTHER CHECKS

Following the questionnaire, we may ask see a scan of identification (with a picture), and in some cases for proof of address, and a reference from a vet. Then we arrange a homecheck in person or remotely, which is done by a volunteer. A homecheck is a visit where we meet you and see the place that you live, to ensure it is a suitable home for the cat.

5. RESERVATION

Following all of these checks, we take a reservation fee of £60 per cat, which makes up part of the full donation. This is to pay for all the necessary documents and veterinary fees in order to prepare the cat to travel. It is non-refundable.

6. THE PROCESS

Our adoption process usually takes a month from start to finish to book the trip and complete all necessary documentation, although depending on circumstances out of our control, it may take longer. The cat must be spayed/neutered, microchipped and had its vaccinations (including rabies, of which there is a waiting period of 21 days since its first injection before the cat is allowed to travel). If the cat is old enough, we also get them blood-tested with an ELISA test to ensure they are negative from FeLV and FIV. You will receive a passport with their cat documenting all of this.

If you live in Spain, this process is a lot shorter, and you will not need to pay a travel fee if you pick the cat up in person.

7. TRANSPORT

The transporters we use are professional and kind animal handlers who are often involved in the rescue business themselves. They pick the cat up from the shelter or foster and drive 3-4 days to the UK, where they will have a meeting point for you to collect your cat. In some cases, the cat may be delivered straight to you, but that is not usually the case. We aim to make the process as smooth as possible, so we will do our best to help you collect the cat if necessary.
